Did someone say Cold....!!

Posted by bigaadams, Jan 20 2010, 09:16 AM

Well I will say this...the cold snap that come through the area left me with a strong desire to sit in the house and not kiss up to a piece of cold steel by any means. I did not get much done except to make a run and pull some used car panels off a P15 for one of my other cars. I was also able to piddle about the shop and work a couple of small trim panels for yet another car. The wagon is pretty much sitting in a condition where I must hang the AC unit inside the car and route the hoses before I can seriously make any further headway. The late November swap meet found many venders there except the AC distributor I like to buy from. With the upcoming event next month I am hoping he will be on hand and will try to call ahead and have the unit I want available to carry home that same day. Personally in all the units I have looked at and studied, there are but only two models on the market that are compatabile with our cars that take the firewall hump and cowl vent operation into consideration. These two models come in a couple formats and I highly recommend you stay away from the total electronic controlled units with driving motors. Your call, but with the analog setup, it is a breeze to modify your existing control panel for that "clean install". This is purely my view on the subject and by no means am I saying that you or anyone else should do it any particualr way..I have my reason for the analog and they are well founded from past experience, will pretty much leave it at that. Had a couple days were the sun did come out and warm the immediate area so worked a bit straightening some stainless steel trim. Slowly trying my hand to this skill which I may add takes lots of patience and a technique I have yet to learn well let alone try to master. Odds are I may never make it but small dings and such I am slowly learning a bit, twists and kinks..that stuff be brutal. I also have taken the colder days to do some shopping on the internet and did find a few parts for the wagon project. Also due to the cold weather I have again been working on the house a bit with a tad of remodel here and there and addition of insulation. Trying to stay a bit busy to keep from going stir crazy with cabin fever. First of the year I spent a week in continuing education classes and we all know how much fun that is. So I still sit back and think ahead to what I need to do, what I need to buy/find to get a phase done and so this keeps my wagon project alive even if it appears to be on life support. Some other interesting things going on that also may limit my time in the shop this year...time will tell...so till then...will keep buying parts as I find them, jotting down items on the To-Do list and smile when I get a chance..
