far and few between..hopefully you kept the ends after taking the originals off..odds are they twisted in two on you...once off the vehicle..one can put these in a vise, apply appropriate heat and successfully remove broken ends...then its just a matter of welding them back in place, chasing the threads and going about your business..

It it really extra work..guess thet is where I differ from lots of folks in this hobby..to me its all about doing it yourself even the trival things like a broken strap..kinda takes the fun out of it if all you did was bolt it in place..I guess though if you have a deadline you pushing the ready to pop on units would be nice.

well, I have been working on the car since 2004...I redid the entire engine myself...except magnifluxing it...I brought that in....I put in new pistons, new rings, new oil pump, new fuel pump, new distributor,...they were all shot.. painted the motor and all parts, repaired the radiator, in the process of rewireing, took apart and cleaned up all the guages, rebuilt the master cylinder and all the wheel cylinders, bought the inner and outer rocker panels, and floor pans, will be welding them in place myself (after I learn to weld), all new gaskets, new plugs, repaired the ignition cylinder(car did not have a key)...etc. the list goes on. I got the car as a gift from a former student. It had 2 frozen pistons...took me forever to get them out....so I guess what I am trying to say is that I have done a shitload of work already. I am a 44 year old teacher without a lot of money. This is my first project of this magnitude. I plan to give the car to my 74 year old father when done...hope he does not die first. The straps broke when I was trying to remove the tank. I am going to use the same tank and just clean it out. The car hadent been run since 1973...I brought it back to life....kinda feel good about that. I do not think I am just a " if all you did was bolt it in place" kind of person. And what is wrong with that anyway? I will be painting the car myself as well. I have learned a lot and I am enjoying this project. So are my kids and wife.I just thought I would see if there were any available straps out there so I did not have to weld the old rusty ones together. Please don't spoil my fun. Besides..I looked at your profile and noticed that you just put new motors into your vehicles. Isn't that kinda the same thing? Any help with my project is greatly appreaciated. Negative comments are not.

It is great you all you can yourself, and I am sure that this car will mean more to you for your labor of love...nowhere did I say buying and bolting it on was wrong, just does not have the end rewards of reworking it yourself..and I also stated that "to me" this was what it was all about...I am sure you father will appreciate it even more knowing what you have put into the car for his benefit..but as far as the straps..they were out and repaired in less time to do an E-bay search, did not have to wait for the order to arrive and that meant also more money to put in other places on the car...so far it looks like you more than have a handle on the situation..keep up the good work..

If only the ends of the straps are broken as bigadams mentioned, these bolts can easily be duplicated with bolts, saw. hammer and a lot of heat. You may be able to save the special nuts that are used, but if not, these are available. I think Dave at email address of krusn64@aol.com sells the nuts for these straps. As long as you have the strap ends, you should be able to make new straps. When I repaired my straps, I purchased some webbing the same width as the strap and used it between the strap and gas tank. Keep up the good work.

If you are looking for a quick not factory correct fix NAPA has roll strapping with 2 bolts that you can adapt. I used it on a 18 gal tank on my gmc truck. Its basically plumbers tape with a few bolts. They have two part #'s different lengths I forget with I used numbers are BK 7321150 and BK 7321151

that reminds me of a book I read in my early early school days of the lady who had a blanket with holes in it and how she repaired the blanket by cutting out the holes with a pair of scissors..this was even before the days of Amelia Padilla

That reminded me of the Yellow Submarine when Ringo said "i've got a hole in me pocket" and he pulls out the hole and throwis it on the ground..or something like that.
