1949 was the first year of the "Box-On-Box" styling for many car manufacturers. It was the first truly new styling to follow World War II. Many good photos of 1949 Plymouths may be found on these pages of the website. Surprisingly enough, the very first 1949 Plymouths were actually "left over" from 1948. Plymouth was a little slow in tooling up, so they issued what is known as "1949 - First Series" cars. These cars sometimes were a bit odd, containing DeSoto clutches, Dodge transmissions, Chrysler rear ends - you get the idea.

1950 brought some "smoothing of the edges" from the 1949 styling. By the end of the model year, the Korean War was going strong, cutting short the manufacture of some replacement parts. Many good photos of 1950 Plymouths may be found on these pages of the website.

By the time the 1951 model year rolled around, the Korean War was going strong. Much of the US manufacturing capacity had been diverted to military use so fewer changes, notably the front clip, were made. Many good photos of 1951 Plymouths may be found on these pages of the website.

Because of the Korean War, only a few cosmetic changes were made in this model year. However, by the end of the year, things had eased up to the extent that 1953 brought many changes. Many good photos of 1952 Plymouths may be found on these pages of the website.

As I update the website, I occasionally find a car that is exceptionally photogenic. These cars become "Feature Cars" on the website. When their turn has passed on the Home page, I believe that they should continue to receive some recognition so we can all see what is possible with this "old Iron". Ergo, I have created what I call the "Hall of Fame". The first 2 years of the website, I did not do this so if your car has been a Feature Car, please send me a reminder to post it here. - BKW

This site could not exist without a bunch of friends, not all of whom are lucky enough to own a '49 - '52 Plymouth - or even a Mopar. In order to get along with these guys, I have to have a place on this website to show their cars. Therefore, this page is dedicated to them, their cars and to a few interesting images picked off the internet. - BKW
