Ed Botchie's 50, 52 & 52

Ed and Nita Botchie of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, USA, are among the few who are lucky enough to have more than one old Plymouth. They are fortunate enough to have the THREE that are shown below.

Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see the final outcome of Ed & Nita's hard work.

1950 SPECIAL DELUXE CONVERTIBLE - The original owner restored the car in 1962. Ed & Nita first saw it way back in 1978 and offered to buy it at that time from the second owner. Eighteen years later, it finally became available and they bought it on May 15, 1996

The four photos immediately below show what a jewel this convertible really is.

How sweet it is! All that is needed to complete this picture is the beautiful girl.
Ready and rarin to go cruisin'. Classic lines!

Ed's 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook 4-Door Sedan - Green - This was Ed's first car. It has been in the family for a long time and, in 1969 belonged to Ed's uncle, who was going to junk it. Ed convinced his uncle to let him play around with it. Ed and his dad rebuilt the engine and painted the car (at home) in 1969 and Ed used it as a daily driver until 1975. The lower two photos show it as it is today - waiting its turn at restoration.

Ed & Nita's daughters named the car 'Iggy' because of the 'aooga' horn Ed added to it.

The four photos below show 'Iggy' "way back when" and now.

Coming along nicely! Nice, clean lines.

1952 Plymouth Cranbrook 4-Door - Blue - Ed bought this car from a Chevy dealer's lot in October 1974 for $500, which included a 50/50 1 year warranty. It had 57,000 miles on it at the time. Ed is the second owner. He drove it daily from 1975 to 1982 when he changed to a '63 Fury.

Restoration started in December 1996 but has been slow going since family and job seem to get in the way. Ed & Nita are making good progress based upon these photos. The latest photos were taken in Nov. 2001 and completion is slated for Summer of 2002.

The photos immediately below show the car over the course of its restoration.

Oct. '74, purchased this one-owner from a Chevy dealer's used car lot for $500. It came with a 50/50 warranty. Summer 1976 - being driven regularly but beginning to show her age.
December 1996 - long awaited restoration begins. May, 1997 - stripped to bare frame and body shell - the fun has just begun!
Sept. 1997 - Frame completed - body work just beginning. November 1998 - It's a long, slow process but she's under her own power again.
December 1997 - most of the metal work is done, firewall painted and engine installed. June 1999 - Still sanding - my fingers are worn to the bone.
August 1999 - ready for paint - just waiting on the primer now. November 2001 - What happened to all those years? Finally, fresh paint!
September 2001 - At Ron's Buff & Wax, getting painted - Thanks Ron! November 2001 - Home again - don't touch the fresh paint!
December 2001 - At home, the long process of final assembly begins..... to be continued...

Below are six views of Ed & Nita's "Iggy" after completion. In 2003, "Iggy" went to 3 shows and won 2 "First in Class" awards plus "Best of Show" at the National Chrysler Products National Meet in Gettysburg. In 2004, "Iggy" was selected for display in the main building of the 2004 Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle, PA. Congratulations are in order!!!

And, finally, a photo of their 50 Convertible and "Iggy" together. How sweet it is!

Ed writes in early 2008: "Just a brief update on the '50 Convert, my Christmas present from Nita this year (2007) was getting the upholstery redone. I thought you'd enjoy a picture of the Botchie Family fleet. This shot was taken two summers ago at a local cars show. Left to right, '50 Plymouth convert, '52 Cranbrook, '64 Chrysler 300 4 dr. HT, and my '72 Plymouth Duster. BTW, the Duster was the first new car I bought, falling in between the green '52 and the blue'52. My wife, Nita is know to have said, 'next to his Duster he loves me best.'
'Old Plymouths never die, they just get better'"
